Christmas Hope

Dianne JohnstonDianne Johnston

When you think of December, do you go into panic mode or joyful excitement? While some focus on the all-consuming task of Christmas shopping and preparing for family visits, others simply enjoy being able to play carols on December 1st. Whatever your stance, one thing is clear – it is a month meant for celebration, reflection, thanksgiving and hope. As you enter this season of Christmas, remember the purpose of this most-celebrated time of the year.

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. Luke 2:4-7

It’s all about a baby coming into this world to bring hope. Isn’t that something our world seems to be lacking these days? And yet, it is a free gift offered to all. This season, I pray that as you encounter neighbours, friends or family members that you would be bold witnesses of the hope of Jesus. In the celebration of Christmas and the exchanging of gifts, be reminded of the One who sacrificed it all so we can live for eternity. Offer this hope to those around you. Show them the love, peace, and joy they can have as their own.

It’s not just a picture on a card or display in front of a yard. The birth of Jesus was a real event in history. It’s a love story of a Father who sacrificed His Son so a whole world would have an opportunity to live in eternal hope. What a beautiful reason to celebrate!

Why the Gospel is Good News for All People

Gospel. As it is written in Isaiah the prophet “Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare ...
