How to Discover Your Spiritual Gifts

I remember the first time I heard about spiritual gifts. I was amazed that God gives each believer, something to serve with for the benefit of another person. It’s like having superpowers! Reading this, you might be wondering, “What are spiritual gifts, and how can I find out what mine is?” we will be walking through this together to get you started on identifying your spiritual gifts.

What Are Spiritual Gifts?

Spiritual gifts are like special abilities that God gives to those who believe in Jesus. They’re not just any abilities – they’re supernatural talents that God gives His children to use for sharing the Gospel, spreading love, joy, and service.

Discovering Your Spiritual Gift

  1. Pray and Ask: Start by talking to God. Ask Him to show you the special gift He has given you. Remember, God loves to hear from you, and He wants to help you discover your gift. “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you.” – James 1:5
  2. Use Your Interests: Think about the things you enjoy doing. Do you love singing, drawing, helping others, or making people smile? Your interests can give you hints about your spiritual gift.
  3. Listen to Others: Sometimes, people around you might notice your special gifts before you do. They might say, “Wow, you’re really good at encouraging others!” or “You have a kind heart.” Pay attention to these kind words – they can help you discover your gift. “Encourage one another and build one another up.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:11 – pay attention to those who have been doing this with you.
  4. Try Different Things: Don’t be afraid to try new things. Join clubs, volunteer, or help out at church events. You might discover your gift while doing something you’ve never tried before. “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” – Ephesians 2:10

Some examples of spiritual gifts can include: Administration, Prophecy, Teaching, Missions, Speaking in Tongues, Interpreting Tongues, Word of Knowledge, Hospitality, and many many more.

No matter what your spiritual gift is, always remember to use it with love. God gave you this gift to show His love to others. So, whether you’re helping, teaching, caring, or making people laugh, do it with a big heart full of love. “Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.” – Colossians 3:14
