If you want to get more done, rest is the key to productivity if you want to get ahead. Yes, you read that right. In a world that never sleeps, where hustle and bustle seem to be the norm, it’s easy to forget the importance of rest. We live in a world that values working 24 hours a day, at the cost of our physical, mental, and spiritual health.
But God, in His infinite wisdom, knew that rest was essential for our well-being. He created the world in six days and rested on the seventh (Genesis 1), setting an example for us to follow. Today, although we rest in Jesus’ work on the cross, there is a physical aspect of rest we should take in our lives.
Rest is not taking a break from our daily routines, but it’s about replenishing our souls. When we rest, we allow ourselves to connect with God and renew our spirits. Taking time to think on His goodness and faithfulness, and sovereignty over our lives. This is what keeps us going for the long haul.
In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus invites us to come to Him and find rest for our souls. He promises to take our burdens and give us rest, but we must be willing to lay them down at His feet. It’s not easy to let go of our worries and fears, but when we trust in Him, we find peace that surpasses all understanding. This peace keeps us going in turbulent times, or in moments we feel like giving up.
Rest is not a luxury, but a necessity. It’s a gift that God has given us, and we must cherish it. We must focus on our rest, for our own well-being, and also for the sake of our relationships with others. When we are resting, we are more patient, kind, and loving towards those around us.
As we go about our busy lives, let’s not forget the importance of rest and Sabbath. Let’s take the time to slow down, connect with God, and renew our spirits. Let’s trust in His promises and find rest for our souls. May we never forget that rest is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of wisdom.
