How You Can Easily Invite Anyone to Church

Inviting someone to church can be an awkward topic. No one wants to feel rejected or make the conversation be awkward. The good news is, there are ways to do it that aren’t awkward so here’s 5 tips to easily inviting anyone to church:

Start with a Conversation

Before you invite someone to church, start a conversation with them about their beliefs and interests. This will help you understand where they stand and give you an opportunity to share your own beliefs. You might already know this, but bringing up the topic in a relatable way is key to bringing up the invitation to church. One way I’ve done this is by mentioning there are basketball runs every Thursday at church. From basketball, I asked if he’s down to spend a Sunday morning at my church for service.

Be Genuine

Share with them why you enjoy attending church and why it is important to you. If you are genuine, they will be more likely to trust you and accept your invitation.

Be Specific

Instead of saying “come to church with me sometime,” invite them to a specific event or service that you think they might enjoy. You might say, “I think you would really enjoy the play at our Sunday service, would you like to come with me this Sunday?”

Offer to Go with Them

Let them know that you would be happy to go with them to church and sit with them during the service. They won’t feel on their own, besides it’s hard to feel comfortable in a place you’ve never been, and not know anyone there.

Respect Their Decision

If they decline your invitation, respect their decision and don’t push the subject. Remember, as a believer you are the light of the World and God has given you His Spirit to guide more conversations and live as an example before them. Let them know that the invitation is always open if they change their mind.

Remember, the goal is not to force anyone to attend church but to share Jesus and invite them to experience it for themselves.

If you want to learn more, there’s a really cool testimony from Lara, who was invited to church during a tough period in her life. As a result, she made a decision for Christ, got baptized and is now serving at GKM! You can learn more about it here.
